Q&A

Is the museum closed? Our downtown location closed August 16, 2014. Facebook is the best way to follow our “Museum without Walls” outreach in the community.

What is a Museum without Walls? Instead of visiting us for creative learning experiences, we will bring the educational programs and activities to you. Visit us at community events, in schools, and at various locations around town.

Why will you be closed? The Children’s Discovery Museum is not just relocating but is transforming our program delivery model for an entirely new experience. During these months, exhibit design, fabrication, and installation will be finalized and additional staff members will benrecruited and trained. We will reopen on March 11, 2017.

Where is the museum moving? Our new facility is located at 1205 Sam Houston also known as the former Playhouse Movie Theater. It is in close proximity of VISD’s Fine Arts Center and Aquatics Center, Liberty Academy, and the splash pad. What will be different at the new location? With 14,680 square feet, the Children’s Discovery Museum will triple the size of our operating space in order to have much more to offer in terms of innovative exhibit space, daily programming, inspiring outreach programs and much much more. We will even have room for parking and outdoor exhibits!

Parking, really? Yes, really! We will have parking for visitors and school buses for the very first time. Plus bike racks, access to Victoria’s transit system, and close proximity to the Hike and Bike Trail.

Will there be food available at the new location? There will be a small café with healthy options for a quick bite to eat with café tables and chairs.

When can I book a birthday party, field trip, or event rental at the new location? Watch facebook for announcements about when we will begin taking bookings.

Will you be selling yearly memberships? Yes! Memberships are NOW available. Click here to purchase one today.
