The Junior Marine Exploration Field Trip will provide 4th Graders in the Golden Crescent with the opportunity to conduct outdoor science investigations in environmentally friendly ways while furthering their understanding of the natural world. Learn about specimens and creatures of the bay at Port Lavaca Lighthouse Beach. Each hands-on topic will be investigated and discussed at three stations throughout the park. Led by Mary Caulkins.

When: 9am-12pm, Nov. 4th, 2019

Where: Lighthouse Beach, Pt. Lavaca, TX

Cost is $8 per student, Chaperones are FREE!

Bring your own sack lunch and stay and enjoy the beach with your class after your session!

Sample Schedule:

9:00am - Arrive at the beach for orientation and safety talk

9:15am - Crab Station: Learn about the Atlantic Blue Crab and then fish for them using live bait!

9:45am - Participate in a group scavenger hunt and/or sandcastle building competition on the sand!

10:15am - Visit the Marshland environment for a study of fiddler crabs, periwinkle snails, and their unique environment!

10:45am - Check out the beach shallows using a seine net and talk beach conservation with an expert!

11:15am - Enjoy a bit of free time to explore before lunch

11:45am - Lunch!
